Profile bio

About Luca Adamo

I have more than 15 years of experience in the full-stack development of web solutions, with a predominant focus on backend and persistence layer technologies. Since 2011 I started developing native apps and I have relevant skills in native mobile development for iOS and Android devices. From 2014, following the trend emerging in various technical conferences, I led the migration of the ELbuild s.r.l. base software stack to an API-centric solution. I have thus become highly skilled in REST API design, testing, and implementation (mostly JAX-RS).I have 10 years of experience in the system administration of Linux servers (CentOS, Debian) and cloud-based solutions (i.e. AWS) in critical and demanding scenarios, and I have attended several conferences and seminars on the topic. I am also an expert in multithread and high concurrency software design and implementation in Java and Golang and an overall design patterns enthusiast with a strong attitude towards best practices and TDD.While I still focus on the design and implementation aspect of a project, in the last 5 years of my career I naturally evolved towards management roles, being frequently hired as ad-interim CTO and Software Engineer Manager, both in Italy and in other countries including Australia and more recently South Africa. Some of the responsibilities of my role are interviewing, hiring, and mentoring junior developers, organizing the development team and the development process, managing the budget, and overseeing the delivery procedures and the overall project progress. Most relevant technical skills:• Full stack development of integrated software solutions, based on a micro-service architecture;• Agile methodologies enthusiast, with a proven track record of implementing SCRUM at scale in geographically distributed and cross-functional teams;• Backend software development in Java and other JVM-based technologies;• REST API design, testing, and implementation (mostly JAX-RS);• MySQL / PostgreSQL / SQL Server relational database design and optimization;• SysAdmin for Linux servers (CentOS, Debian) and cloud-based solutions (i.e. AWS);• Multithread and high concurrency software design and implementation in Java SE (JDK6+);• Native mobile development for Android and iOS (Objective-C) devices;• TDD and OO Software Design patterns.

I designed both the automated multithread Java SE spider that collects and indexes all the documents on a daily basis and the search engine. The latter is based on Apache Solr 4.0 with a custom caching layer and several fine optimizations created to target the specifical market. The frontend is realized with a Java EE web application based on JSF, JMS, EJB 3.0, CDI and JPA. I personally took care of the IT infrastructure set up as well, including the configuration of the Glassfish 3.1 instance and of the tuning of the OS level parameters (CentOs 6). The UI is very intuitive and it has been designed and engineered by ELBuild. Show less

As a senior software engineer I designed and implemented the software that allows the company customers to interact with their WSN. The system was composed by a multithread Java daemon that synchronously red data from a RS232 serial interface (RXTX lib) and handled the persistence on a MySQL database via Eclipse Link JPA 2.0. The customers could access those data via a standard Swing Desktop application, a Java EE (JSF, CDI, EJB) web application deployed on Apache Tomcat 7, a JAX-WS SOAP Web Service or a SNMP module I wrote using SNMP4J. All those interfaces could trigger the daemon (that acts also as a server in client/server paradigm) to send ZigBee messages (configurations, requests, etc) over the WSN via a messaging framework I developed using objects serialization over sockets and JMS. The daemon was also used to schedule (via the TimerTask class) the generation of PDF report via XSL-FOP and to send alarms via mail (javax.mail) or GSM (custom lib sending AT 07.07 commands over RS-232).As a senior developer I was also responsible of a part of the company software development team, supervisioning the activity of 3 other developers.
