- Led projects on testing effects of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells for liver cirrhosis andmeniscus injury utilizing in vitro and in vivo models, and authored two patents.- Built the cell culture laboratory and responsible for lab management.- Established collaborations with China Pharmaceutical University and Suzhou Wuzhong People’s Hospital for stem cell research.

Thesis title: Engineering tissues with a zonal structure and composition mimicking native articular cartilage using mesenchymal stem cells.- Developed decellularized porcine cartilage ECM scaffolds and examined their repopulation with stem cells for cartilage tissue engineering applications.- Examined effects of dynamic compression on chondrogenesis of bone marrow and adipose stem cells.- Investigated engineering zonal cartilage grafts by using a bioreactor that regulates mechanical and oxygen environment of the tissue.- Published five papers in this project.Advisor: Prof. Daniel Kelly, Director of Trinity Center for Bioengineering.

Thesis title: Identification of human bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cell sub-populations.- Isolating bone marrow MSC sub-populations by Fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) and examining their chondrogenic potential for cartilage tissue engineering. Advisor: Prof. Anthony Hollander in Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine.
