In an age of distraction, I enjoy activities requiring focus and an encounter with the real world — i.e., the physical world, where machines work or do not work; the world of communities and teams, where you are engaged and contributing or not; the world of logic, where a solution is computable or not.I am an engineer. As a researcher at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, MIT, and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, I worked on hard computational problems with supercomputers. I learned the fun of steering teams as well as the rigor of a fact-based approach to business with McKinsey and Company — I have applied these skills throughout my career as a manager in energy trading and as a strategy manager with BNP Paribas. I have an interest in mastering programming languages (some things, you just can’t explain). I enjoy poetry, classical music, and good coffee. When I can, I start my day going running in the countryside. I read about logical empiricism and mathematics. Sometimes, I race sailboats.
