I worked at the Physical Chemistry group at the University of Turin on a catalysis-oriented project, exploiting advanced analysis of in situ Cu K-edge XAS data collected at the ESRF BM23 beamline to better understand redox chemistry in Cu-exchanged chabazite (Cu-CHA) catalysts for deNOx applications via ammonia-assisted SCR, in collaboration with Umicore Denmark ApS.The thesis activity focused on data treatment and analysis with specialized codes to correlate catalytic performance and spectroscopy-derived Cu-speciation in Cu-CHA catalysts with different compositional characteristics. The methods applied in the thesis include LCF/MCR analysis and FDMNES-based simulations of XANES spectra as well as EXAFS fitting with conventional and innovative machine-learning-based approaches and Wavelet Transform analysis.
