At Datadog, I lead distributed teams with both remote and in-office members.My principal and most recent area of expertise is application performance monitoring (APM). I currently lead a product engineering team that is responsible for driving the growth of Datadog's APM by (1) building a well maintained catalog of integrations with frameworks and libraries, (2) improving our onboarding experience, and (3) improving our customer support experience. The team works across all the languages and runtimes supported by the Datadog APM product: Java, Python, Go, Ruby, Node.js, PHP, .NET, C++. Our work is open source and our libraries run in our customers' environments.Previously, I led the APM PHP team from the creation, and a minimal PoC of our APM library, to GA.Here is how I spend most of my day:- Keep the team healthy, run 1:1s, communicate expectations, challenge proposals;- Define OKRs, supervise their execution, prepare the ground for the following quarter's most complex cross-team OKRs;- Lead large cross team initiatives, like improving Datadog's APM support customer experience through better processes, metrics visibility, tooling.- Talk to customers, analyze tickets backlogs, identify patterns to be addressed with larger initiatives.Things that peers and managers said of me:- I am good at resolving frictions and disagreements between people. I do that by keeping conversations strictly based on facts and by eliminating as many "personal opinions" as possible.- My comments and feedback, for example to RFCs and product briefs, are focused and based on real world examples. I have gone through the pain of having a RFC blocked by a thousand different opinions, not all of which were relevant to that RFC. Because of this, I am now on a mission to help the author to push things through.- I am good at removing the unnecessary to focus on the essential. My main goal is always to reduce the time to value for our customers and ship progressive improvements.Before Datadog, I was at Vendini — a large ticketing platform —, where I was a founding member of a team tasked with rewriting our legacy MVC web application business logic to expose all the functionalities as a REST api.I graduated in Electronics Engineering in 2005 in Perugia (Italy), and I got a PhD in Electronics Engineering, with a focus on Biomedical Devices, from the University of South Florida (Tampa, FL, USA).I am a husband and a father of one. Every morning I either go to the gym or go hiking. I love reading books, articles, and essays about politics, society, and economy.
