On the way to 'augmenting humans'. We explore new ways of exploiting and improving the human senses to access digital content and allow humans to communicate better with each other.We also develop hardware and software technologies that help to fill the experience gap between persons with sensory disabilities and the society.I acquired experience in Speech and Audio processing systems, targeted to computer-human and human-human interaction; Robotics and Virtual Reality systems, aimed at immersive communication and control through tele-vision and tele-touch; Tactile and Haptic displays, with the goal of building assistive technologies for blind and visually impaired persons.I was principal investigator of the European project BLINDPAD (www.blindpad.eu), which led to the construction and succesful field-test of a tactile tablet for blind and visually impaired people.In 2019 I co-founded Acoesis, as spin-off of IIT: we designed and produced Glassense, the first pair of glasses that focus on voice. In 2022 I joined Nextage, a spin-off of the University of Genoa, as Area Manager on Innovation and Research Projects.Specialties: Human-Computer Interaction and Multimedia technologies. Our mission is to improve the quality of life, especially for people suffering from mild to moderate hearing loss. Our first product is Glassense, the first pair of glasses that focus on voice. The technology enables to better understand speech in noisy environments, by just looking at the person we are talking to. Our goal is to improve oral communication in noisy and crowded places, therefore increasing the quality of social relationships. The startup is a spin-off of the Italian Institute of Technology. Acoesis has won the Ligurian Smart-Cup and the Silver Economy Grant 2019 of the City of Genoa.
