An aspirational student in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at Merivale High School, with a proven track record of success and eloquence in a variety of competitions, ranging from Mathematics to Hackathons to even Mock Trial competitions.Hi, I'm Lucas and I believe that I possess many characteristics that allow me to endeavour and succeed. I am adept at working alongside others, both as a fellow teammate and as a leader. I am capable of quickly grasping new topics, regardless of circumstance. And, I am driven to pursue my passion in computer science, specifically machine learning and mechatronics engineering (check out my Github - https://github.com/LucasHJin).In the past, I have competed in many competitions and created various projects that I deem interesting! Here are a couple:• Hack the North 11 Winner - 1000+ hackers, Canada's biggest hackathonAt Hack the North 11, I created Lips Lips Revolution, a social challenge platform where people can lip-sync to popular songs to get the highest score. It used Next.js as a full-stack framework, Tailwind CSS for styling, MongoDB for the database, Symphonic Labs' API for lip reading and OpenAI embedding models for lyric comparison. And... it won MLH's Best Use of MongoDB Atlas.• UOttaHack6 - 500+ hackers, Ottawa's biggest hackathonAt UOttaHack6, my first-ever in-person hackathon, I created a web application using Python and Flask for studying specific purposes. Intended for students, it mimics Reddit's style with tags and search functionality specifically for students. This was the kickstart moment for me and what inspired me to participate in further hackathons such as JamHacks8 where I created a speech recognition AI that would work in real-time during interviews to provide personalized responses.• Dominion Mock Trial Champions Cup 2022 - The Largest Mock Trial Competition in CanadaAt DMTCC, my team placed 1st, becoming national champions for Mock Trial. Despite my inexperience, I took on extra roles, filling in for other team members with unforeseen circumstances and becoming one of the runner-ups for the Best Witness Award. At present, my team and I look to the international stage, having taken the title of Best Canadian Team at the 2023 Empire Mock Trial Fall Leagues and hoping to cinch a podium placement this year.I am a deeply passionate individual, especially when it comes to innovation and creativity.
