After our two week annual training, I was contacted by another unit to be promoted and be a team leader for them. I attended a three week course called Basic Leaders Training. During that time I learned different approaches to leading a team of people as well as the attributes and competencies a leader should have. Upon graduation of the course, I was on the Commandant's List. When I returned to the unit, I was in charge of leading a team of five to six soldiers to accomplish tasks and to provide them with guidance. I also attended a Unit Prevention Leader course that provided me with experience on how to perform drug testing and prevention. This experience has been eye opening for me and has provided me with experience I can use in all aspects of my life and future careers.- Tasked with leading a group of soldiers- Trained in leadership- Entrusted with duties and responsibilities- Accomplished tasks with a team within time requirements

I have always had a passion for learning about sound and lighting for events. During high school, I volunteered to help setup and run the sound and lighting systems for events the music department put on which gave me a lot of experience in the field. This position has given me more knowledge about audio visual systems as well as customer service and providing a product that the customer is pleased with.- Learned about new audio and visual system and how to operate them- Provided customer service to clients - Troubleshot problems that occurred and came up with solutions to solve them quickly- Worked in team based environments

My enlistment in the National Guard has been one of my proudest experiences I have had in my life. I went through ten weeks of basic training and 16 weeks of job training that truly changed my life for the best. I was able to experience working with people from completely different backgrounds from myself who all shared a similar mindset. I was also able to serve on Federal Active Duty orders during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide communication support from state-wide interoperability between the National Guard, local law enforcement, EMS services, and the Iowa State Patrol. When the Derecho occured in Cedar Rapids, I also got the opportunity to help clear the debris and help those in my neighboring community.- Granted a security clearance- Attended multiple training schools- Learned the value of knowing when to follow and when to lead- Worked with people from various backgrounds to achieve a common goal

Walmart Distribution provided me with my first real experience of a career and what that entailed. I worked in receiving and would unload trailers of freight, either by hand onto a conveyor belt or by pallet utilizing a forklift. I also got the opportunity to work in Human Resources recruiting people and setting up times for interviews. I gained a lot of knowledge about how a supply chain operates and I now have a deeper respect for factory workers and the hard work they perform.- Gained forklift certifications and operated them safely to perform tasks- Reached out to others for help when I could not accomplish the goal on my own- Maintained a rate of processing freight that was above the requirement- Learned about the hiring process and provided customer service

Working at KILJ was my first real job I ever held. I was fourteen years old and responsible for setting up the broadcast at the radio station by myself. I would also continuously listen to the broadcast for cues for when to play commercials during the broadcast that was on the air. This job taught me the value of troubleshooting and problem solving when something did not go as expected. I had to think on my feet when something went wrong in order to restore the broadcast to the air. - Recorded news broadcasts to air during the day- Monitored audio levels during broadcasts- Worked independently at the station- Learned new systems quickly and applied them to the work environment

This was one of multiple jobs I held in high school while be simultaneously active in sports, extra curriculars, and maintaining a 4.0+ GPA. I started off in only one area of the kitchen and quickly was cross-trained to perform not only all the tasks in the kitchen, but the front of the restaurant as well like interacting with customers and running a register. This experience taught me how I like to be more of a jack-of-all trades when it comes to workplace rather than being confined to a single area of work. This allowed me to better assist my coworkers when they were running behind and needed some extra help so that I could make their jobs easier. - Provided customers a welcoming experience- Safely prepared food and maintained an adequate amount of the buffet- Simultaneously monitored level of food on buffet and prepared to-go orders- Chosen as employee of the month for four months in a row
