Research And Development Intern

San Antonio, Texas, United States

I was responsible for refining the manufacturing procedure for a proprietary microcarrier. To this end, I measured and tested the product for efficacy and quality. To achieve this goal, I created a new method of analyzing the size data of test microcarriers.I created a forward simulation of the manufacturing process to accelerate testing. Developed an assay to measure the adhesion of cells, find the best seeding density, and culture the cells to use for the assay.

Undergraduate Research Assistant

College Station, Texas, United States

My lab worked to create cortisol-detecting molecularly implanted polymer (MIP) electrodes.s My responsibilities for the position were making graphene electrodes using a laser cutter and conducting electrochemical experiments on the electrode. During electrode manufacturing, I had to take time to align and flatten sheets of polyimide properly. The process was laborious and time-consuming, but I was given great freedom to optimize the process. I used the lid of large Petri dishes as a base to place the polyimide on, then put it into the laser. This improved efficiency as it became simpler to align the sheet for engraving and more consistent as the tape was now placed much closer, creating a flatter surface. I was also once tasked with designing a new electrode design to fit an electrical connector to replace our use of silver ink to stick the wires. The electrochemical experiments were to test the impedance of the electrode under multiple conditions. as polymer-polymer was added and the template removed. I also ran electrochemistry tests with increasing cortisol concentrations to test the final electrodes. I also completed smaller tasks such as diluting the pH of solutions to test the electrodes and mixing the cortisol test solution and diluting them.

Primary tasks were filling and selling prescribed medication. I did these tasks with an eye toward efficiency and excellent customer service. Completing these tasks often involved problem-solving, primarily ensuring patient insurance was applied to patients' prescriptions. I also had to ensure patients received needed medications, are the Covid-19 pandemic had caused many medication shortages. These issues often frustrated patrons, and it was my job to provide a solution for these patients as quickly and thoroughly as possible. I took my job very seriously, completed my task to the utmost ability, and took an active role in learning and improving at tasks I had yet to master.

Student Research Assistant

San Antonio, Texas, United States

This was a position I had through a program with my High School during my senior year. Had multiple responsibilities involving the mice subject. The study I worked on focused on determining if an increased level of tryptophan in the mice diet would affect autism-like symptoms. During the feeding period, I was responsible for caring for the mice. This responsibility meant ensuring the mice had enough food and water when I came. A dedicated staff member changed the changing of bedding in the cages. I was also responsible for weighing the mice to monitor their health, which involved being able to keep track of each mouse in the cages. The weighing was to see how the diets would affect the mice's muscle weight, as tryptophan can be found in the muscle. my final responsibility was conducting behavioral experiments on the subject. They included the water T-test, Tube-test for social dominance, and the marble burying test. Lastly, I gave a virtual poster presentation on my findings at the end of the school year in May 2020.
