Responsibilities include:• Lead a team of 5 operators and 3 technicians to meet daily production goals in a fast paced injection molding assembly line• Develop daily labor efficiency tracking tool to quickly and accurately find weak points and reduce them to increase productivity• Create and lead quick reaction continuous improvement (QRCI) to resolve quality, safety and line productivity issues• Accurately identify engineering or mechanical issues, troubleshoot the problem and return equipment to service quickly to resume production and increase efficiency• Develop standard work instructions (SWI) to reduce scrap and train all personnel to this standard, this has resulted in a significant reduction in scrap for the injection molding line
Service And Warranty Department Engineer (Co-Op Employee)
Responsible for researching and analyzing reliability of products produced by the company. Identifying trends in product reliability and reporting findings to product development teams and Senior Management. Responsibilities include:• Teardown and investigation of fuel filtration modules for Nissan Titans and heavy trucks. As of January 1, 2020, I had reviewed a combined 210 warranty claims, with around 40% being deemed Cummins’ responsibility.• Investigate cause of failure and determine whether the claim is accepted or denied• Communicate with customers the reasoning behind denied claims.• Developing an in-house test stand for heavy truck fuel modules.• Implementing 5S in the warranty offices.• Collect and prepare data to present at monthly cross-functional reports.• Maintain and update historical data logsKey Accomplishment: Developed warranty decision trees for every filter family in order to streamline the decision process regarding testing and acceptance decisions.
Css Engine Assembly Quality Engineer
Responsible for evaluating existing processes and configuring manufacturing systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability and develop best practices within the production processResponsibilities include: • Determining breakpoints in order to quarantine suspected engines when quality concerns appeared • Investigating whether the quality concern was created by the assembly process or an out of specification supplier part• Measuring supplier parts and comparing measurements to technical drawings to determine compliance with specifications• Writing work instructions and creating visual aids for a 3rd party company to follow when inspecting supplier parts for defects and reworking defected enginesKey Accomplishment: Served as a member of a team tasked with preventing engines that were meant to be sent to a closed assembly plant from being scrapped. This was accomplished by retrofitting these engines to fit the needs of another assembly plant, re serializing these engines to retain tractability, individually testing and inspecting each engine, and organizing the timely shipment to the new assembly plant. This project saved $750,000 worth of engines from being scrapped.
Field Quality Investigations Engineer
Responsibilities include:• Served as a member of the Infiniti QX50 warranty task force.• Contacted dealerships to request warranty parts be sent to the Field Quality Center and gather more information on warranty claims, when necessary.• Inspected warranty parts for physical damage and ensured they were safe to be installed to a test vehicle. When needed, installed warranty returned parts to a vehicle for road testing to duplicate the customer’s concern.• Documented and reported on the findings of investigations and tests of the returned warranty parts.Key Accomplishment: Developed a process to identify future warranty claims based on parts that are currently on back order. Claims cannot be filed until the part is replaced and the customer’s vehicle is back on the road, so there is a gap between issue occurrence and our reception of the claim. I generated standards and a process flow chart for this and over the summer found a 25% correlation between investigated backorders and future warranty claims.
Industrial Process Engineer
Responsibilities include:• Trained and led a team of 5 operators on a windshield value-add installation cell that had not been in production for several years. • Helped to identify and correct deficiencies in the value-add processes.• Assisted with troubleshooting the production lines when issues occurred.• Conducted time studies during PPAP• Conduct root cause analysis to determine cause of quality concerns• Reviewed PFMEAs, work instructions, and visual aids to ensure accuracy and ease of understanding Key Accomplishment: I worked with the quality department to close out 8D concerns with Ford Motor Company. Over the course of my three month internship as a Quality Specialist intern, I provided suggestions for, validated, and documented over 50 8Ds.
