The Old Man and the Sea written by Ernest Hemingway is my favorite book, and being a fairly short story I have read it a few times. Like Santiago, I want to captain my own vessel and travel further than the local waters. My career at Cal Maritime has been a great one. I am excited to have met this milestone in my life and can not wait to see what the future holds. As noted by my shipmates and professors, I am a punctual, hardworking individual I like to show up early and see the job done to the end. In addition to class I have been an active member of the dinghy and offshore sailing teams. These teams have become a second family and helped to further build my communication and leadership skills. Upon graduation I will pursue a lifelong career at sea working to improve safety and environmental standards along the way.
