My name is Lucas Mori and I am a senior Human Nutrition & Foods major at West Virginia University, with a minor in general business. After being diagnosed with a chronic skin condition known as Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS), I quickly became interested in using nutrition as a means to mitigate my symptoms. After months of food logs, elimination diets, bloodwork, and allergy tests I finally achieved what I had been seeking, and was able to reach remission without ever taking medication. Having gone through this experience, it has instilled a persistent desire within me to help others who are also struggling with chronic conditions. Taking on the implications of the journey towards remission can be very overwhelming as an individual, which is why I strongly believe in the importance of nutrition professionals having a larger role within society at large. For these reasons, my career goal is to become a private practice nutritionist where I can help patients treat their chronic conditions through diet and lifestyle changes. I think my personal experience gives me a unique perspective on nutrition and I am very eager to learn more about how food can be used as medicine to not only manage disease, but reverse it.
