Over the past few years, I have gained much experience in the realm of computer science. Most obviously, I have taken a handful of computer science classes at Illinois College including CS 197/421 Human Computer Interactions, CS160 Intro to Computer Science, and CS170 Intro to Data Structures. These classes have taught me the basics of Java coding as well as the intricacies of designing an application. While at Illinois College I have also worked at the IT Service Desk on campus since Fall 2021 as a Student Tech and have since been promoted to the role of "Student Developer" for the IC Mobile App on top of other Service Desk related duties.I have also had the opportunity to work with a faculty member and a fellow student at Illinois College to code a simple video game as a Student-Faculty research project over the summer of 2022. We used this video game as a means to test the pedagogical functions of video games in a college setting. The game was a 2-D platformer that taught students about the abstract physics concept, special relativity. The game was coded in C# using Unity game engine. My main responsibilities over the course of this project included assisting my professor in developing a new "relativistic physics engine" that we could use in Unity to give a visual to the relativistic effects as well as designing simple AI that would control our enemy characters. I also had the opportunity to present this project at two separate off-campus conferences as well as at some on-campus events over the course of my sophomore year.I am currently working an internship with the IT Department at Illinois College in which I have gained much experience in the realm of back-end IT work such as improving websites with Wordpress, automating mundane processes with Power Automate Flow, and experiencing the decision-making process of the IT Department higher-ups through participating in meetings between them and my supervisor.
