Self-designed research of the behavior of Martian atmospheric dust as influenced by geological, environmental, and micro-physical conditions. Project originated as a submission for the Student Nano-Experiment Challenge hosted by JPL and the Planetary Society.• Designed and fabricated prototype Mars surface mission instrument payload to passively observe the physical behavior of Martian dust in situ.• Constructed Mars Dust Simulation chamber featuring atmospheric and environmental approximation and remote observation to simulate mission image capture and data analysis.• Annual poster presence at the Lunar and Planetary Science Conference from 2001 - 2004. • Experiment was to be included on the 2001 Mars Odyssey Surveyor Lander as part of the MECA patch plate (mission was cancelled and the fabricated lander was re-branded for the 2008 Mars Phoenix Lander and removed the original MECA patch plate experiments).• Experiment included on the failed European Space Agency Beagle 2 lander in 2003.
