He attended Virginia Commonwealth University where he studied theatre performance. After he studied at Theatre VCU he toured nationally with Virginia Repertory Theatre (formerly Theatre IV) for five years. He would then move on to join the administrative team, and later rise to become the Accounting Manager. In 2017 Lucas joined VCU Investment Management Company as the Office Manager before becoming an Associate on the operating team. In October 2019 Lucas was appointed Deputy Director for the Virginia Commission for the Arts where he would serve until November 2021. Upon leaving public service, Lucas returned to the VCU Investment Management Company as the Vice President of Administration.Lucas currently serves on the Board of Directors for the non-profit UpVote, and the Advisory Board of Directors for the non-profit Yes, And!
