About Lucas Penny
I am currently pursuing a PhD in the Department of Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto with Dr. Scott Bratman. I utilize next-generation sequencing data, genomics tools (using Python, R, and Bash) and pipelines (Snakemake), and machine-learning approaches to identify biomarkers useful for cancer detection. Committed to improving cancer management, I am passionate about streamlining cancer detection that is less invasive, more accessible, and cost-effective. My previous experiences include working on Canada's most extensive HIV self-testing study with REACH Nexus, holding multiple research positions in a number in wet and dry labs, and serving as Co-Managing Director for Nucleate Canada, a non-profit focused on graduate student entrepreneurship.
