PRA at the Perinatal Research Center - Department of Pediatrics - NeonatologyI'm the surgical assist for fetal surgeries using sheep as an animal model. I perform pre- and post-op care for the animals. During the surgeries I tie surgical knots and anticipate the primary surgeon's needs. Also, I can act as the unscrubbed assistant working as an anesthesiologist, where I administer anesthesia and monitor the animal's vitals. Furthermore, I'm responsible for setting up the operating room, clean up, and sterilization.My other role is assisting principal investigators with their projects in the molecular lab. I primarily run Western Blots using a wet transfer method. I normalize the blots using Total Protein Stain or Actin and quantity the blots using the Li-COR software as well. Furthermore, as needed I perform protein extraction from tissue samples received from the animal models. Last, I research and test new novel antibodies to investigate in the metabolic pathway.
