I was involved in the company’s operations from the launch until the sale to the Smartbox Group at the end of 2007. By this time, we had branches in Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Denmark and Germany. Turnover amounted to 70m euros and the company had a workforce of approx. 100 employees.My main challenge here was to help oversee the financial and organisational aspects of this new concept. From the manual processing of bookings to a fully automated system, with the automatic processing of bookings and payments to hotels.My job was to select the ERP software and IT partner and roll it out. After careful analysis, we rolled out Navision in all our European branches. Software Holding & Finance NV (“SHF”) is a venture capitalist/business angel. It has 15 participations in high-tech start-ups. It also manages a “classic” bonds and shares portfolio.SHF is a business angel that is structured like a venture capital fund. Together with the owner/CEO and a colleague, we managed the participations. Most of my time was taken up by crisis management and damage control, on the financial and operational level.My responsibilities included:• The financial, accounting and tax aspects of running the holding and its subsidiaries• Audit and follow-up of the participations• Budgeting and cash management• Advice to the family shareholders• Contacts with financial institutions• Mandates on the boards of directors in which the holding had a stake
