About Lucio Buffone

Former national radio presenter. I was quite good once, I even won a Sony Gold for Best Daily Music Show.Today I drive trains, competent on 165 and 166 Turbos, 800 and 802 IETs, 387/1 EMUs. ASLEF Union Rep, so I negotiate collective bargaining agreements on behalf of my members. Proud to be part of the negotiating team that negotiated a harmonisation agreement for GWR (that was accepted by over 90% of drivers). I am currently elected as the London Labour Party Regional Executive Committee LGBT Officer. I have over 7 years experience on the railway, for the previous 20 years I worked in the media (mainly radio), and I'm proud of my achievements. I'm glad I changed careers though, it's cool being a DJ in your 20s, less so in your 40s. Key skills I no longer use: Presenting and producing live and pre-recorded programmes. Script writing, interviews, booking guests, developing and executing competitions, music scheduling, broadcast journalism.Seeing as everyone uses LinkedIn to sell their technological prowess, here are my thoughts. The technological revolution is failing. The illusion of choice is clouding real technological advancement. For example it takes twice as long to get to New York from London than it did when I was a kid. Too many people's jobs these days are completely meaningless. Technology is not reducing the working week, but rather extending it for those who can work remotely. Social media is destroying democracy. Instead technological advances should be used to increase productivity and share the rewards more equally.
