About Luc Smits

Luc Smits is a clinical epidemiologist with a focus on risk-based care. He has been leading several multi-center studies of the validity and impact of clinical prediction rules. He has (co-)authored >100 papers in national and international medical journals and is the first author of an influential article in The Lancet on pregnant spanning. He is developer and teacher of a post-doctoral course on Clinical Prediction Models, together with dr. Sander van Kuijk. He has acted as a co-promotor of 8 PhD students; defence of four more PhD students is expected in the next few years. He is Chair of Research Line Optimizing Patient Care of CAPHRI Care and Public Health Research School at Maastricht University. Smits is GCP Certified (Nov 10, 2011) and SMBWO Certified (Nov 23, 2011).
