"How can we live well?" This is what I work at figuring out, and sharing what I learn along the way. How can we build societies where people of all shapes, genders, ages, and identities are treated with respect? How can we alter the thoughts, habits and structures that get in the way of dignity, equity, compassion, and health-justice? What can we do as dietitians, counsellor, fitness/health and social care professionals to help people heal and significantly improve public health? Where does whiteness fit into all this?My approach, called Well Now, helps people make sense of their food and body stories by taking account of how circumstances and histories shape how we feel and think. Well Now helps practitioners link self-care with social justice in meaningful ways in their therapeutic conversations. A key part of this is understanding the role of trauma in eating, behaviours, self-worth and wellbeing.I offer training on various aspects of Well Now, from nutrition education to the deep theory of trauma, and I offer personal counselling and coaching appointments by zoom.You can find me on stage too! I perform social action poetry as The Naked Dietitian.My PhD in Advancing Critical Dietetics was practice based, awarded by Coventry University. I am a Visiting Research Fellow at Chester University, UK , and an adjunct Professor at Mount St Vincent University, Canada. I also teach on social work courses in the UK. I'm not an academic, but I am committed to contributing to knowledge as a civic intellectual.
