During these years I was trained in stock management, processing, customer service, cash office assistant and sales assistant. My part time job has helped me develop many necessary life skills. I am fully aware of the importance of high standards in consumer service and the codes of conduct expected of me in the work environment. I have developed my interpersonal skills with the customers over the years as well as my punctuality, presentational and time management skills when dealing with both myself and the tasks set for completion. I was part of the Rising Star programme where I act as support to the Team Leader in a certain area where I will ensure e.g. stock is put out correctly, correct time management etc. and also have applied to complete TJ Excellence programme where skills are enhanced by training and guidance. In my work also I am one of 3 members of staff allowed to handle and count the money out of a team of 60 associates. This is an extremely responsible job where analytical skills and ICT skills are needed as well as knowledge of numeracy.

I completed a second placement with the Roads Service Consultancy in 2007. Through achieving my STEM Gold BA Crest Award I completed over 100 hours of project work on the design and building of a new bridge where an old bridge was tumbled so that cars could safely drive over the realigned road. It was an interesting project as it was in my local village Plumbridge and included a Matiére precast concrete bridge. This project also included site visits to other existing bridges that were in need of inspection for repair/maintenance. I also attended a safety awareness course on Construction safety – managing design, construction and maintenance in 2007 in Antrim along with a colleague at the time. Overall I gained an in depth insight into design, teamwork, the importance of testing and implementing design etc.
