I have worked as an RMN for 23 years. My Career has covered many areas of clinical practice including working in Acute younger adult, ECT suite, Acute Older person, Running recovery groups for older people in a day hospital including managing a caseload. Discharge coordinator. Leading on a Red to Green project, Secure services.Working as part of an MDT has given me great insight into other disciplines and professions. I have been very lucky to have worked with many great staff and met many fantastic patients/service users in my career.Clinically I feel I have achieved a wealth of knowledge in task orientated skills, communication skills, Risk management, diversity, Physical health problems, Neurodiverse conditions, policies and procedures and have shared this with others, supporting them and educating them as they too have moved through their training and careers.One of my greatest achievement in my career has been my effectivness as a mentor/assessor for nursing students. I have always ensured a fair and compassionate approach to fulfilling this role. I believe this came from my own experiences as a student and wanting to make sure the students stand a great chance of succeeding.I have always had good feedback from my own students and the students of fellow mentors whom I have supported.I allow the student to go at their own pace as appropriate. Encouraging their strengths and supporting them to challenge themselves on any areas of weakness.I encourage reflection and help them to be confident in accepting developing skills can be difficult.We work together on setting achievable targets throughout their time in the clinical/non-clinical setting and make contact with other areas (spoke placements) that may offer a higher chance of reaching targets if not available within their placement.I am approachable, open and honest and go above expectations due to my commitment to supporting students. I enjoy being creative at helping them to develop their skills and their confidence.
