Kenoteq is a Scottish clean tech spin-out from Heriot Watt University, at the forefront of supporting the construction sector in its transition to net zero. The circular K-BRIQ®with competitive structural, acoustic and thermal insulating credentials, recycles abundant construction waste and eliminates the need for heat in production to reduce both embodied and operational carbon emissions. It has less than 5% of the embodied carbon of a traditional brick.I joined the high growth start-up as its first commercial manufacturing operation was in development to assist with the launch and commercialisation of the K-briq, through management and delivery of business development operations reaching key developers, architects, interior designers, engineers and contractors in the public and private design and construction sectors.

With a career in economic development and consultancy focused on innovation and international collaboration for the last 20 years, Lucy has worked extensively with innovative companies and universities across Scotland and Europe within the digital, construction and renewable energy sectors. Her expertise lies in building new business models based on innovation and developing strong commercialisation strategies whilst leveraging in appropriate funding. A strong networker and senior manager, Lucy currently leads a team of Business Relationship Managers at Construction Scotland Innovation Centre helping industry to forge new relationships between business, academia and the public sector to drive forward the Scottish construction industry to deliver higher economic growth with an international outlook.

Delivery of the European Commission's Enterprise Europe Network contract.* Assisting companies at all stages of the innovation cycle to identify and build their connections in their field worldwide for Open Innovation, R&D Collaboration, Commercialisation and Market Development.* Responsibility for working with companies to apply to the European Commission's H2020 R&D Programme, in particular the SME Instrument and Fast Track to Innovation.* As part of Team Scotland, I was a member of the Enterprise Europe Network's Intelligent Energy and Sustainable Construction Thematic Groups, and lead B2B partnering activity co-organising or leading events and missions such as Danish District Heating Inward Mission to Scotland (May 2013), District Heating Mission to Gothenburg (Sept 2013), District Heating Mission to Denmark (Nov 2012), Ecobuild 2013, 2014 and 2015 (London), World BioEnergy 2012 (Jonnkoping, Sweden).* Stakeholder management responsibilities for Enterprise Europe Network Scotland within the sectors*Project manager for building and delivering the Matchmaking Zones at SE's Low Carbon Heat International Showcase 2014 (353 matchmaking meetings held in a 2 hour period) and the Scottish Technology Showcase 2011 and 2012.* 2008-2011, I focused on working with leading Scottish companies in the enabling technologies and digital media field to build strategic connections across Europe, with membership of the Enterprise Europe Network's ICT Sector Group who develop missions and partner brokerage events at both niche and leading ICT conferences and trade fairs across Europe e.g. Mobile World Congress, cebIT, Oulu NFC Week, Infomobility, Telematics & Navigation Torino.

Worked as a Technology Transfer Executive within Targeting Innovation focused on working with companies within the ICT and digital arena across Scotland and Europe. Principal role was delivering technology transfer, commercialisation and European R&D funding advice and activities (company workshops, company projects, missions, events, presentations) under the European Commission's Innovation Relay Centre Network contract. Also assisted to develop, deliver and license MetamorphosisTM, Targeting Innovation's proprietary intellectual property and technology transfer workshop programme and board game. License agreements were secured with various European economic development agencies.

Public/private consultancy that assisted technology-based companies in R&D, commercialisation and scaling. Was acquired by Targeting Innovation in 2002.

Senior Consultant within new media partners, a private consultancy company focused on digital media, enabling technologies and the creative industries. Worked with innovative companies on business planning, business and marketing consultancy projects. Also delivered strategic consultancy projects on behalf of public sector clients such as Scottish Enterprise, Interactive Tayside, Creative Scotland, North West Arts and North West Regional Development Agency.

Working to deliver Scottish Enterprise Account Management services to young and growing companies in the software sector across Glasgow. This role involved helping companies with all aspects of their business growth from fund raising (grant, angel and VC funding), innovation activities (product development, commercialisation and also moving companies from a service business model to product development focused companies), market development, operations, HR. Project management of development of On-line HR Toolkit for Software Companies.

Delivered innovation support and international technology transfer support services to innovative technology-based companies across the East of Scotland. Managed the European Commission’s Innovation Relay Centre Network contract for the East of Scotland.

Started as a graduate trainee and held various positions in this dynamic company which grew from 8 to 40 employees within my time at the company. Roles included Business Start-up Adviser & Trainer, Marketing Adviser, Trainer & Consultant, Manager of Business Advisory, Training & Consultancy Services (Maternity Leave) and Marketing Manager for the company. The company's business activities included business support and advisory services, business training, industrial property development & rental, conference centre development and management and private nursery (childcare) development and management.
