My early working life was in hospitality and I was a volunteer at a hospice. I then went in to care work and studied to become an RGN. Upon qualifying, I worked in an emergency medical unit and then on an acute elderly care unit in my career progression. Then came a move to the private sector in my role as a Matron of a large nursing and residential home at which point I studied for a management diploma with the Chartered Management Institute and was awarded Student of the Year. After a short career break to have my children, I went back in to working life as a resettlement worker in the prison service for EDP. This then morphed in to a recovery worker in the substance misuse team, which led to a transfer in the same role at an IRC. The IRC was re-roled back in to a prison which is where I returned on a part time basis alongside being SPOC and the lead on out of court disposals with the criminal justice team at Reach drug and alcohol services in the community. I am now full time as the recovery lead with CGL in the prison service. I am privileged to work with a great team based within the health care centre which means we can deliver a really collaborative multidisciplinary service to the people in our care.
