Whilst working in the early years sector I have worked my way up from nursery nurse to acting manager in a 65 place nursery. The nursery received an outstanding grade from Ofsted in 2009 whilst I was working as a room supervisor in the 2-3 aged room. I have learnt how to manage budgets and other financial aspects of running a nursery whilst making it profitable. Whilst working full time, I studied for my foundation degree, which was 3 years. I found it great learning new skills, developing my knowledge of early years and putting the knowledge that I had learnt into practice. I continued my studies with my BA Honours in Early Years. This was a great deal of hard work and dedication, but I achieved a 2:2. I have been on numerous day courses to keep my knowledge and skills current and upto date.I have built up excellent relationships with parents and staff, working closely together to support them and their children in the nursery.I have planned and prepared children’s Christmas and graduation parties, involving the whole nursery and the parents. This involved booking entertainment, planning games and preparing food.At my current job, I am the nominated Safe guarding coordinator. This involves looking at the children’s development and well- being and noticing any changes in behavior, appearance, language or demeanor. Staff come to me if they have any concerns about a child and the appropriate action is taken. I know the procedure to take and have had to call the Local Safe guarding Board in the past to protect a child. I am the designated SENCO coordinator in the setting, which means I ensure all practitioners in the setting understand their responsibility to children with Special educational needs. I advise and support colleagues/ parents, liaise with professionals, attend regular training and plan individual play plans for children.I have introduced Mud kitchens into the nursery outdoor space and am in the process of further developing the outside natural area.
