At the age of 14, I was diagnosed with a chronic illness that completely changed my life, taking away nearly everything I valued. This life-altering experience forced me to reflect deeply on who I am and what truly matters. Over eight years of recovery, I came to understand that life isn’t about the circumstances we face, but who we choose to be within them. With this realisation, I committed myself to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.My journey began as a Support Worker and Skills Teacher at The Baking Bunch, a not-for-profit bakery dedicated to helping people of all abilities gain the skills they need to find paid work. Over two years, I had the privilege of blending my passion for baking with my commitment to supporting others. I worked closely with NDIS participants, providing personalised support, leading hands-on learning in service skills, baking techniques, and health and safety procedures, all while fostering independence and confidence. This role taught me the importance of patience, empathy, and the power of empowering individuals to take control of their own lives.In addition, I volunteered at the Starlight Children’s Foundation for 15 months. This experience enriched my understanding of compassionate care and resilience, as I brought moments of joy and positivity to children during incredibly tough times. Through these roles, I gained invaluable skills in person-centred support, education, and caregiving—skills I continue to apply in all my endeavours.While I found great fulfilment in these roles, I recognised that direct support, while crucial, wasn’t scalable enough to create the broader, long-term impact I wanted to achieve. This drove me to pursue a business degree at the University of Queensland, double majoring in business intelligence systems and leadership science. My goal is to combine my hands-on experience in community support with strategic business skills to create innovative programs that can uplift communities.With a deep understanding of individual needs, combined with leadership and strategic insight, I’m committed to making a social impact on a larger scale. My journey has instilled in me resilience, a sense of purpose, and a strong desire to make a lasting difference. I’m now ready to bring my experience, passion, and business skills to tackling problems and improving quality of life for all.
