    In my time at Bargain Booze I had various different responsibilities including money handling, date checking, stock rotation and cleaning. I had the responsibility of locking the shop on an evening and occasionally opening up of a morning. As well as serving the customers I had to make sure that they were served in a nice manor, received the correct change and that they found everything they were looking for. I was often given the opportunity to assist in management related tasks.

    Working for Greggs was a very different working environment to what I have been used to. Each shift would be different as there are many different day to day roles which needed to be allocated. I regularly worked an early shift which is when we received the delivery, this had to be arranged and ready for when the shop opened. I found it a challenge when it came to preparing sandwiches as I had a time limit to make a certain amount to a high standard. From this I learnt a key skill is that you just try and try again until you reach your goal. Daily routines included cleaning, serving customers, handling money, and being able to keep track of what pastries need to be ready for certain times I.e. rush hour.

    Working as a waitress I have gained many skills, one of my strengths is that of strong communication. On a daily basis I talk and listen to a wide range of customers. Here I have to take accurate orders depending on the customer’s needs and then prepare the meal to a high standard for them. On numerous occasions I have had the task of working on the till dealing with money and other forms of currency. I have often mentored new starters to the Wheatsheaf where I showed them all the different roles. Being able to work in a team but at times also being able to work independently is very important.
