As a legal assistant/paralegal working within the government and infrastructure team at Browne Jacobson, I assist with advice to both local authority and private sector clients on a range of matters including regeneration and development, public procurement and commercial contract drafting. Day to day, I provide assistance to the team across the London, Nottingham and Manchester offices with a broad range of public sector advice. Primarily, I assist private and public sector clients on:-Mixed-use regeneration and development schemes;-Public procurement strategy;-Drafting of procurement documents for local authorities to go out to market;-Commercial contract drafting; and-Local authority powers, rights and duties.I am also a member of the Chartered Institute for Legal Executives (MCILEX) and have been an Advanced Paralegal member of CILEX since October 2022, and am working towards qualifying within the government & infrastructure team in 2024.

As Tribunals Coordinator, I am responsible for overseeing the disability benefit Tribunal appeals. I develop and maintain relationships with Law Firms who take Tribunals cases for us pro bono, and act as the primary point of contact for solicitors and volunteers who have technical questions regarding the application of the law, as well as guiding them on the drafting of their written submissions. I always maintain an up to date knowledge of welfare benefits law, in order to regularly develop and deliver training to our pro bono volunteers. Before a client is allocated a representative, I am responsible for advising them on the appeals process, and providing casework support on any other welfare benefits issues they may be having outside of their disability benefits appeal. Should I come across a client too high risk, vulnerable or complex to be assigned to a volunteer, I personally take on these cases, drafting written submissions and representing the client in the First Tier Tribunal.

Working within the Casework Team, I provided legal advice and assistance to clients on their welfare benefits and housing issues. I also assisted the Tribunals Coordinator with supporting pro bono volunteers by assigning clients with disability benefits appeals, and overseeing the drafting of their written submissions. Through casework, I supported high risk, vulnerable adults appeal their negative disability benefit decisions to the First Tier Tribunal. In order to support clients, I maintained a thorough understanding of the law that governs these benefits, drafting written submissions outlining the clients entitlement and representing them at their hearing. I worked holistically to identify issues outside of their appeal, including eviction, homelessness and debt, advocating on their behalf to ensure they are accessing the financial and practical support they are entitled to by law.
