• I have an ongoing responsibility to universities across the country to advise and support current research throughout its various stages. This may include providing my expertise on the suggested methods, trialing part of the study or contributing a section of writing for the research proposals or findings to be published in journals. My current project involves the creation of a framework to provide GPs with to support them in reducing relapse of self-harm in young adults.

Within this advisory role I along with my team provide advise and guidance to the team in creating a virtual reality therapy to increase confidence in young individuals with depression and anxiety. This can include a wide range of tasks from advising on which well-being questionnaire to provide individuals with all the way to giving feedback and input on how the coach within the therapy should look like to make them approachable and friendly. This role has been an amazing opportunity.

Within my role I provide 1:1 coaching to individuals with long term health conditions, mental health conditions and anyone in-between. This job requires a variety of skills from motivational interviewing to applying counselling skills and techniques. I work with a variety of age groups from 18-95 years and a variety of groups including highly stigmatised and minorities. I work with our local IAPT talking therapy service designing and delivering group courses that combine CBT with psycho education to help individuals manage and cope with LTCs and their mental well-being. I receive clinical supervision to bring forward patients and discuss their care plans, as well monthly MDT meetings with the wellbeing and mental health team. The role has enabled me to manage my own patient caseload and become proficient in the use of EMIS and AccurX.

 This fast-paced and high demand role equipped me for the ever-changing scenarios of public and private healthcare. I had to communicate daily with a wide variety of groups from patients in a manic episode to lead nurses about medication and de-briefs and reports to the clinical lead. I have gained vital experience and understanding surrounding the importance of assessing individual risk and patient centered care. I also became proficient in core responsibilities for the ward, like taking patient notes on Rio, organising, and recording patient activities and security checks for patients and staff.

Within this role I am handling and processing human samples in order to carry out the Laminar Flow COVID-19 test as part of the Mass Testing Site for Reading University. Allowing me to continue to develop my laboratory based skills.

As part of the young peoples research advisory group for this study, I help discuss if elements of the study are suitable for young people, how it could potentially be used, what we would need to change or add to make it more useful, advising on recruitment methods, communicating findings, as well as designing and analysing qualitative interviews; through online interviews/meetings and demographic questionnaires. This helps researchers gain an understanding of a young persons perspective to allow the study and findings to be accessible as well as helping me gain insight into how scientific research is carried out.

- The role involved contacting patients who were in the extremely vulnerable category for the corona virus, to check and see if they need any support from the government for example food parcels and any wellbeing support. It involved many hours of talking to patients and asking lots of questions to gain an understanding of their health and just generally chatting to them, in certain cases more extreme action was required as that patients were extremely vulnerable. This would involve things like calling 999 as the patient was suicidal or in danger, or sometime having to escalate their case to the local authority directly.

- This role involved making drinks for customers at the music venue.- Working as part of the bar staff team.- Maintaining health and safety behind the bars and cleaning them every shift.

- Within this role I trained as a lifeguard for two consecutive years at Camp Cody (NH USA) up to the red cross level. Whilst at camp I was also the assistant head of boat beach which meant managing a team of 10 instructors and ensuring the safety of 50 children around the water all day. I also have experience with children who have heart issues and carrying their AED whilst teaching sailing and lifeguarding. Whilst at Camp Cody I was also responsible for 50 campers travelling on a bus to New York and back to their parents. I was also in charge of campers being picked up and taken to the airport in America ensuring they got on their flights safely.

- In this role I worked as an ice rink steward, maintaining health and safety providing first aid. I was also part of security for the ice hockey games at the centre. In the summer months I lead the children’s summer camp around the centre.
