As a doula, I provided education, physical and emotional support to families preparing for birth. I would meet with expectant parents before labor began and inform them about the course of labor and the choices available to them. After gathering information from women and their partners about their wishes for labor and birth, I used that information to offer help and advice on comfort measures such as breathing, relaxation, movement, and positioning. During labor, I provided continuous emotional reassurance and comfort measures to help achieve the ideal birth for that specific family.
