Since 2011 I have worked in secondary education, teaching media and film studies and currently lead these subjects as head of department. I also have significant experience of pastoral roles; supporting student wellbeing and character development with a specialism working with young people post-16 and all that comes with it!My coaching journey began in March 2021 when I experienced first hand some of the complex personal challenges faced when working in an educational setting. I knew I needed support – I just couldn’t think clearly enough to identify what kind, or where to look. Coincidentally, I was sent a link to a coaching programme provided by Yes Futures supporting teachers emerging from the pandemic and I thought I might as well try. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Experiencing coaching as a client, has helped me understand the importance of having space to think. I already had everything I needed to move forward, I just had to give myself time and space to access it. I am a walking, talking example of the belief that, in coaching, the client is creative, resourceful and whole. As I moved forward in my coaching space, I reconnected with my ambition and drive and decided to help others who might benefit in the same way. So I did. Having now completed an Accredited Diploma in Transformative Coaching with ANIMAS I am exploring the role coaching can have in helping teachers and others working within the education sector.
