I have a sound understanding of the day-to-day leadership challenges, and financial and operational management of a membership organisation, which requires acute and constant attention to detail. This must be balanced against the need for bigger-picture thinking in the development of strategy, responding to the competitive environment, the scholarly publishing landscape and wider research environment to ensure we’re delivering benefits which meet the ever-changing needs of researchers in academia and industry.Key Achievements:• Strategy - defining the purpose of AMI - including rebrand and name change• Growth of reserves by 53% from 2014 to 2021• Diversification of investments into ESG• Strategic relocation to London and then remote working• EDI-focus• Growth of core team from 5 to 17Leading the Society through change in our operations, governance, and strategy, I take a collaborative approach, listening to all stakeholders to ensure integrity and openness in communication and decision-making.

I was responsible for project management in honing the Society's HR provision and organisational policy. Governance issues and finance were also covered in this role, as was contract negotiation and external affairs.

I managed all the Communications output of the Society, ensuring accuracy and integrity in effective communication of applied microbiology. This involved organisation of public engagement events, PR and policy work, as well as Editorship of the members' magazine, Microbiologist, website development and social media engagement. Microbiology as applied to the environment, industry, food and health in day-to-day life are the primary themes of the Society's communication output, as well as public engagement, people skills and careers, and science policy. I grew the Society’s communications output from one part-time role to three full-time, developing the Society’s website, social media, magazine, and policy communications. This shifted the Society’s perspective to become much more outward facing.
