Designed and implemented a novel methodology for figurative language classification to gather labeled data for training of a semi-supervised RNN model. Trained our in-house annotation team on self-designed ontologies and annotation guidelines.Designed/coded original empirical research inspired by theories of semantic similarity and corpus frequency, utilizing web scraping and word embeddings.Reporting back to the machines so they can learn how to be as creative as we are.

Research on cross-cultural and interlanguage pragmatics research involving PRAAT speech analysis of global and local intonation patterns, and how the way in which something is said triggers meaning for speaker intent and listener inference in different cultural environments. Examined how cultural norms affect speaker style in the differing contexts of Self-opinion (personal preference) vs. Opinion of others (social judgment). Conducted SPSS statistical analysis of original cross-linguistic corpus dictionary data, with significant and practical findings.Ultimately, trying to find a way to make sense of the cultural differences that underlie miscommunications between native and foreign speakers of a language (in this case, English).
