In this role, it was my responsibility to generate a product development plan for an anti-microbial coating technology for orthopaedic implants, with costs, from proof-of-concept to regulatory approval. To successfully achieve this I needed a comprehensive understanding of the technology and scientific development and it was important for me to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of medical device markets and an in-depth knowledge of company technology and competitors. I also needed to be familiar with EU and USA medical device regulation and classification. Through this development plan, the company was approved for a government grant for £100,000. In addition to government funding, I also assisted in seeking Venture Capital and Angel finance and securing an in-kind support agreement with a large orthopaedic company.Throughout my day-to-day tasks, I was required to liaise with the CEO, Head Product Engineer, Patent Attorney, Regulatory Consultant and Head of Technology. I was also responsible for intern recruitment and was an industrial advisor for a grant project at Glasgow University.

I was employed on a temporary basis as a Scientific Intern to assist with the development of a novel antimicrobial coating for orthopaedic implants. The initial term of 3 months was extended to 6 months following which, I was promoted to R&D Project Manager.
