I am a Fulbright SIR with a PhD in Mathematics (Mathematical Finance). I also have a strong background in Actuarial Science and Risk Management.I have used my skills to solve a myriad of multi-sectoral problems for more than 15 years, in and outside Kenya.On a macro level:1. I have been working with the Kenyan Commission for Revenue Allocation (CRA) as an academic technocrat since 2016, contributing to the construction of indices used in the revenue sharing formula used by the Kenyan National Government to share revenue among the 47 County Governments. 2. I was in the team tasked with the feasibility study of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) [currently Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF)] rates which were implemented in 2015.3. I was appointed to the Advisory Board of East Africa Forum for Structured Products (renamed as East African Forum for Alternative Investment) which is tasked with facilitating the success of alternative investment channels in East African securities and commodities markets.4. I was part of an advisory team on the Informal Settlements Upgrading Program from 2016 – 2018, funded by IDRC. I later tested the viability of funding Affordable Housing using SACCOs and pension funds. I am currently engaged in conversations on the Housing Levy.5. Played a key role in coming up with the initial Zero Coupon Yield Curve for the Nairobi Securities Exchange which was to be used in pricing coffee futures.On a micro level:1. I have advised on risk-profile-modelling for vetting prospective insurance clients and loan applicants.2. I have advised on optimal pricing models for commodities' numeraire like gold in the Islamic banking sector.Internationally:I have visited different countries like: United States of America, South Africa, Ghana, Namibia, Botswana, etc to advise on different issues related to my areas of expertise.I have also worked with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) where I developed novel ideas.Researcher:1. My research students have had publications by different good journals, including a Harvard Journal.2. Our research activities have contributed to solving societal issues like: a) A mortgage-backed-security model which uses dynamic programming for optimal costing, for affordable housing in Kenya.b) A project to facilitate pension cover for the informal sector and Kenyan poor using mobile phone airtime whose work is being improved further to create commercial viability.Mentorship: In 2022, I visited 24 Kenyan universities to mentor students pursuing Actuarial Science and Mathematics.
