Having spent the last decade working on forensic investigations, I am now a key member of the corporate intelligence practice within Grant Thornton UK LLP’s forensic team. In this role, I have a particular focus on compliance due diligence, including US FCPA and UK bribery Act due diligence, and asset tracing. I also support Grant Thornton’s forensic investigations team.I joined Grant Thornton's Forensic and Investigation Services team in 2007, having moved into forensic investigation services following qualification as a Chartered Accountant in 2002.Early on in my career, I was involved in the preparation of expert witness and advisory reports on a variety of assignments, examples of which include:• Preparation of an expert witness report to assist the Revenue and Customs Prosecution Office in the prosecution of individuals believed to be involved in an MTIC fraud.• Preparation of an expert witness report to assist the defence in a breach of warranty claim. This subsequently expanded to include a full business valuation.• International arbitration assignments, a number of which included multi-million-pound DIAC construction claims. • Criminal defence work assisting a defendant charged with conspiracy to defraud and fraudulent trading.• Assisting in an investigation on behalf of the National Crime Squad of individuals and solicitors in relation to the laundering of the proceeds of drugs trafficking.Following a year’s secondment at the Serious Fraud Office in London, where I was responsible for managing a team of financial analysts involved in the investigation of a large investment fraud, my focus switched to investigations. Most notably, I spent nearly three years investigating a global multi-billion-dollar fraud, leading the team investigating the transactions alleged to have been key to the misappropriation of funds.
