In the role of Policy and External Affairs Officer, I support the work across three key areas in National Voices; policy, communications and membership. This role is integral to the organisation's work advocating for equitable, person-centred health and care services, ensuring this work is authentically developed with our members, and effectively communicated to our wider network.

In this role, I actively lead in the delivery of member updates, manage media platforms, and coordinate publication production, demonstrating my public facing abilities. I also act as a main point of contact for communications, for over 200 members, demonstrating my ability to responsively support external relations.

I started the UBT Society to influence change, and improvement surrounding the knowledge of breast cancer. Through effective leadership, active encouragement of a range of ideas, and strategic forward planning, we have successfully engaged with a range of individuals during our hosting of many exceptional events, with considered cost, quality, and turnaround time.

In order to study this MSc, I first completed an access route in science, demonstrating my dedication to this change in path. During my MSc, I have further developed my research and analytical skills, elaborating on my theoretical understanding of studies, methodology and exercising skills in quantitative programmes in regards to nutritional data. I have also developed strong laboratory based and theoretical nutritional assessment skills, including knowledge surrounding food consumption and nutritional intake. For my thesis, I researched the credibility of readily available information surrounding breast cancer and nutrition, with the aim to improve the understanding of misinformation which may be dangerously accessed by such individuals and possible ways to prevent this, such as improved communication.

During the pandemic I ameliorated the situation by starting my own online Pilates classes, which I continued throughout 2021. Along with managing the business using a range of Microsoft Office programmes, I also taught up to 25 individuals multiple times a week, customising lessons to clients and providing succinct communication for class delivery. I have also undertaken APPI Stretch training to develop my understanding of the practice.
