Lucy Vandenberg is an entrepreneurial and mission-driven leader with more than 20 years of experience in the philanthropic, non-profit, and government sectors. She has a proven commitment to building partnerships among philanthropy, non-profits, government, and the private sector to create more equitable and sustainable communities. Lucy thrives in providing leadership to mission-driven organizations, establishing vision and initiating new programs, advancing intersectional approaches to support healthy communities, creating new philanthropic partnerships and investments, and promoting social and racial equity.Lucy currently serves as Executive Director of the Schumann Fund for New Jersey, where she provides leadership to this independent foundation advancing equitable opportunity for low-income children and families of color in Essex County and New Jersey. She oversees $1.6 million in annual grantmaking to 50 non-profit organizations in areas of early childhood, education, child welfare, youth justice, affordable homes, and healthy communities. Lucy most recently served as Senior Program Officer at The Fund for New Jersey. At The Fund, she pursued intersectional public policy-focused grantmaking and new collaboratives to advance racial and social justice in areas including public health and environment, immigrant rights, criminal justice reform, equitable public education, climate justice and resiliency, LGBTQ issues, and public media. Previously, Lucy provided leadership and advanced public policy solutions to support affordable housing, community development, and resilient communities through professional roles in the non-profit and government sectors, including roles as Executive Director of the State of New Jersey Council on Affordable Housing, Senior Policy Advisor for the New Jersey Office of the Governor, and Associate Director for the Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey.Lucy currently serves as a Trustee of the Council of New Jersey Grantmakers (CNJG) including membership on the Executive Committee and Co-chair of the Policy Committee. In addition to her statewide leadership roles, Lucy is committed to the health and well-being of her community of Trenton, New Jersey where she has resided for 20 years with her wife and two children. She has served on her local City of Trenton Board of Education and as Chair of the City of Trenton Green Team. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan (B.A., Honors Program) and Rutgers University (M.S.W., Administration Policy, and Planning).
