Lead solutions architect in the European Crisis Management Laboratory (ECML), dealing with the design and development (software architecture, data integration, user interface) of information systems (early warning and risk assessment tools) in support of EU policy on disaster risk reduction and prevention. In particular, I have been working on the IT system supporting the Epidemic Intelligence from Open Sources (EIOS) Initiative, led by the World Health Organization and involving a number of other public health institutions, including DG HERA and ECDC. I am currently coordinating the EIOS portal development team.

Design and development (software architecture and user interface) of the European Commission Disaster Risk Management Knowledge Centre portal, and of other web applications aimed at supporting collaborative risk assessment and early detection of threats from open source media, for partner institutions such as the World Health Organisation and the Global Health Security intiative (EIOS, HDRAS, GHSAG) and the African Union (CAAS / CEWS).

Involved since 2007 in the HOC-lab research group at the Politecnico di Milano, PhD student from 2009 to 2013. Research interests: Exploratory user experiences, information architecture, data visualization, interaction design, HCI, usability, social web and collaborative applications.

Iinvolvement in a research team (Logical Information Systems, supervisor Prof. Sebastien Ferré) in the field of knowledge management, for research on semantic faceted search. Design and development of advanced navigation and visualization patterns for communication-intensive exploratory user experiences, based on rich internet applications and evolved faceted search engines, as well as on my previuos and current research on search-enhanced information architectures.
