I’ve always had a passion for art and building. As a kid, I wanted all the toys that pertained to the cartoon I watched. My 2D art was limited even with all the shading, highlights, and shadows to make it look 3D, I still couldn’t grab the objects off the page to play with. Utilizing my imagination, masking tape, posterboard, and markers I was determined to create the toys that I couldn’t have. As I got older, I continued building my techniques, improving my problem-solving skills, and experimenting with other materials. At the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, I had tools, machines, materials at my disposal to create whatever I wanted. Courses included: Special Effects, Transportation, Game & Toy, Product design, Human Factors, Furniture design, etc. As an Industrial Designer I learned to research, sketch, draft, render, provide scaled models, and produce presentations for clients. My current position is at the Walt Disney World company, where I’ve been a Visual Merchandiser for over 24 years. I have learned from my talented co-workers who have different Art degrees how to infuse creativity in a window or shop space, set design, and to use my resources efficiently. I’ve laid down floors, cut wall pads, put up faux walls, bought furniture, created or modified props, and incorporated motors and lights among many other projects. I am self-taught in Photoshop and Illustrator which I include in all my design work for presentations. I’m building up my work-shop so I can continue collaborating with my co-workers to bring our ideas to life. I’m enjoying this position because it challenges me to become a better designer. I appreciate the opportunity that this position has provided me.
