I am a disruptor in HR - no, really - it's legit - check out the video below. What was the reason I became a disruptor? Well, my boss man at the catering company I worked with asked me "How was I innovative in HR?" I scoffed at him (well, that is the business appropriate word for my reaction). How could HR be innovative? How could a transactional, administrative, constantly hiring because of high turnover department be innovative? I left the company a year later. I left without having a job. So, I enjoyed the first two months of unemployment, got some cross stitching done and then made an actual effort towards job hunting. Luckily, I took a temporary job with a local start up, Inspirato. It was less money, less responsibility, but I could turn my phone off of work business when I wasn't at work. It was glorious. Now, Inspirato was the exact opposite of Epicurean. Low turnover, high engagement, young company. Even though I was "temporary" I still had ideas. When I found out there was no bureaucratic red tape to implement my initiatives, my innovation bloomed. It was amazing the amount of experience that I gained from Epicurean that I was able to bring into Inspirato. This new found confidence was further strengthened by my recent Master's Degree and HR Certification. It was amazing to know that the theory learned in classroom and assessed by tests, was validated by the practice in the work environment. However, nowadays I am seeing the disconnect between theory and practice and am trying to find the happy medium.I look forward to continuing to being an innovative, questioning, results driven HR professional.
