I’ve been in the Internet/Networking industry since the days my entire country had less Internet connection speed than my smart phone has today.I was part of the team that configured one of the first submarine fiber optic connections that Costa Rica had access to, leaving behind satellite communications. Today, after over two decades of work—after dial-up connections, analog mobile telephony, and after 128 kbps “broadband”—I passed the Cisco DevNet certification. From E1 links to Python. From ISDN to 5G, IPv6, IoT and Edge Computing.I’m a network architect focused on making tailor-made designs, with the correct technology, always being keen not to oversize. My focus is the Service Provider industry, having worked at both sides: the operator and in sales from a major vendor. My work has helped to develop the most impressive invention in recent history: the Internet.I’m convinced what I’ve done is key to my country’s development and people’s well-being. It has reduced the digital divide and made companies more efficient. For years I’ve spoken about Internet Governance, Net Neutrality, and Data Protection. I’ve done it with the Internet Society Costa Rica Chapter of which I’m a founder member and former president.I enjoy learning new things and I’m a passionate university professor. I find teaching a truly rewarding activity. When I have to lead people, I never forget I work with human beings. I understand that it’s impossible to be full of energy every day. Every person faces difficult circumstances that need empathy.I love spending time with my family, taking underwater photographs and trail running.
