The Reverend Luis Cortes has championed a robust organization to help with the unmet needs of Philadelphia’s local Hispanic community and serves as one of the leading voices advocating for Latinos in America. Drove the strategy, structure, funding sources, visibility, and outreach with key influencers creating programs targeted to address areas of housing counseling, immigration aid, business support to over 200 local retail businesses, environmental work, and community development. Created a K-12 charter school serving minority and low-income students, a K-12 cyber school, an accredited junior college serving over 3000 students and an award-winning workforce development program model. Founded and managed National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast, bringing together a national network of 13,000 Hispanic faith and community-based organizations. Drove tremendous growth from a one-person operation to over 550 employees, $70 million in annual revenue and a $125 million dollar asset base. Spearheaded relationships and involvement with influential leaders and serving in partnership on numerous boards working to benefit the organizations as well as the Latino communities. Anticipate further growth in 2024-2025 with a new charter school that will add over 70 jobs and be on track to become an organization with $80 million in annual revenue.The author of six books, Reverend Cortes was awarded the 2019 Philadelphia Award, included in 76 most influential People in Philadelphia in Philadelphia Magazine, included as one of Time magazine's 25 Most Influential Evangelicals in 2005. Rev. Cortés presented the Invocation Prayer at the Inauguration Luncheon for Barak Obama’s 2013 Inauguration Ceremony. He was also a featured speaker at the National Prayer Service the morning after President George W. Bush’s 2005 inauguration. He has appeared on several television, radio and print media outlets, including Washington Week, Time, The Lehrer News Hour, The O’Reilly Factor, La Opinion, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and The Washington Post.Rev. Cortés has served on numerous boards dealing with finance; banking; religion; health and education. Currently, he is a member of the Truist Bank Delaware Valley Community Advisory Board and serves on the Hispanic Clergy of Philadelphia.Reverend Cortes and his wife, Damaris have two adult children and six grandchildren.
