    Yep Exchange Student - Volunteer
    Rotary International Jul 2009 - Jun 2010
    Evanston, Il, Us
This is a one-year Youth Exchange Program dedicated to International Students. My particular experience took place at the 3461 District in Nantou (Taiwan) and it provided its international participants with the ability to understand individuals from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. The purpose of it is to promote international cooperation amongst the participants and their host Rotary Club Members. Overall, the full immersion home-stay experience lasts an academic year and provides exposure in navigating through life in different languages and it is an opportunity to develop skills of interpersonal relations, leadership, language, and culture. Participants usually are individuals that come from a family/community background dedicated to the promotion of good social and humanitarian causes which extend beyond borders. The cultural baggage gained through this humbling experience provides much personal and professional improvement for its participants. Throughout this experience, participants are exposed to Rotarian activities, that may go anywhere from reforesting to assisting with the eradication of a disease, such as polio (which was my case while being part of Rotary in Mexico). Being part of this exchange program means acquiring a unique skill: to be actively comfortable outside of one's comfort zone.I kindly invite you to learn more about it here: https://www.rotary.org/en/our-programs/youth-exchanges.
