About Luis Guillermo Loria-Salazar
My field of practice is related to pavement and materials research. Right now I am involved in research and design projects that ranges from the nano-scale to the full-size scale experiments. Currently I am the Director of the Transportation Research Program (PITRA) of the National Laboratory of Materials and Structural Models of the University of Costa Rica (LanammeUCR). The program has over 90 workers (mostly civil engineers, but also chemist, chemical engineers, and, two lawyers) plus up to 40 research assistants, handling a budget up to USD 7 million per year.In this position I have to lead and coordinate working teams that perform several activities: Applied research in pavement/materials, auditing road and bridges infrastructure construction projects, evaluation of the costarican national road network (FWD, IRI, gripnumber, geo3D -high resolution images-, geotech vulnerability), road safety, developing the national road construction specifications (construction, environmental, standard drawings, etc), local governments assistant program, brigdes evaluation and technology transfer courses to professionals and technicians in the various fields of roads and bridges infrastructure. Also we assist the high level of the Public Administration in technical issues.Also, I am professor at the Civil Engineering School of the University of Costa Rica, teaching statistics and advanced pavement design in the master program in Transportation and Roads. I also have taught pavement design and analysis (UNR, UCR), construction materials (UNR) and Statics (UCR). For other grade programs I have taught Pavement Quality Control (National University of Engineering, Nicaragua, UNI) ,Advanced Pavement Design (UCR) and Rigid Pavement Design (UCR).
