Fan who was named by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) one of the "One Hundred Chemical Engineers of the New Era" on 2008. The main purpose of the research was to study the cyclic redox performance of a commercial Iron Oxide catalyst against a sol-gel derived Iron Oxide catalyst. During the internship training was provided in the use of thermo gravimetric analyzer (TGA) where the redox cycles were performed, also in the use of a surface area and pore size analyzer by gas adsorption BET and on a X-ray Diffractometer to determine the crystal structure, size, shape and internal stress of the catalyst, and also in the preparation of sol-gel composites.
