Tankhouse ManagerAsarco Jan 2015 - Aug 2015Sahuarita, Arizona, UsYoungest manager in the history of ASARCO, a more than 100 years old companyProcure resources to meet Safety, Environmental, Quality, and Production objectives within the electrolytic plant, the third largest in the world, and two byproduct departments. OPEX and CAPEX planning and review. Main Achievements: 1) Unit cost reduction by decreasing the amount of anode scrap to be reprocessed, after improving Current Efficiency in electrolytic plant from historic low back to target.2) Procurement and commissioning of the 1st automatic production line using robots in the history of the company. -
Refined Casting ManagerAsarco Jun 2014 - Dec 2014Sahuarita, Arizona, UsIn charge of 2 productions and 1 shipping departments with an operating budget of 2 million USD per month. Anual development of OPEX and CAPEXMain Achievement:Becoming the youngest manager in the history of ASARCO, a more than 100 years old company. -
Senior Process EngineerAsarco Sep 2010 - May 2014Sahuarita, Arizona, UsEnsure compliance with Safety, Environmental, Quality and Production objectives and regulations within departments. Establish goals and objectives to meet KPIs, daily track & review with junior staff. Development and implementation of process and technology improvements. Provide training on copper electrorefining related processes, and assign projects to summer interns, supervisors and junior engineers.Main achievements: 1) Developed and implemented processes going from laboratory to industrial scale targeted to recovering valuable metals from acidic streams: a) nickel and copper from an acidic waste stream and b) tellurium from copper telluride2) Executed a process to transfer generational knowledge and retain best practices in the refinery.3) Defined and developed the process scope and flow diagrams together with the design of mathematical models for 3 expansion projects in the electrolytic plant: a) Acid Purification Unit, b) Bismuth purification system, and d) Tankhouse controls upgrades. -
Process EngineerAsarco Oct 2007 - Aug 2010Sahuarita, Arizona, UsResponsible for tracking and analyzing operational parameters, assessing quality and evaluate process capability using Minitab. Train operators and supervisors on the quality management system implemented at the plant.Main achievements: 1) Define and develop the process scope and flow diagrams for the installation of an electrolyte purification plant based on Molecular Recognition Tecnology (MRT) for bismuth removal.2) Develop and implement a process going from laboratory to industrial scale to extract tellurium from acidic leachate.3) Developed mathematical models used to design the process control strategy for the implementation of two processes a) Pressurized autoclave leaching for anodic copper slimes, and b) De-tellurization reactor -
Research AssistantUniversidad Autonoma De San Luis Potosi Jan 2004 - Aug 2007San Luis Potosí, San Luis Potosí, MxResearch assistant in in the laboratory of Bio-nano Catalisis studying the kinetic behavior of yeast and bacteria in batch bioreactors. Training was received in the use of a plasma reactor for surface treatment.Present 2 research posters, one at the XII National Congress of Biotechnology and Bioenginering for the Mexican Society of Biotecnology and Bioengineering on june 2007 and another one at the National Encounter of the AMIDIQ (Mexican Association of Chemical Engineers) on May 2007. -
Summer InternUniversidad Autonoma De San Luis Potosi Jun 2005 - Aug 2005San Luis Potosí, San Luis Potosí, MxSummer internship studying the kinetic behavior of Saccharomyces cerevisiae in batch bioreactors. Cell culture and inoculation training was provided using petri dishes for yeast growth on a solid support containing nutrients in an agar gel to quantify the number of cell in a culture, a counting chamber (hemocytometer) together with a microscope was used to determine cell concentration, a spectrophotometer was also used to determine cell concentration due turbidity. -
Summer InternInstituto Tecnológico De Durango Jun 2006 - Aug 2006Durango, Durango, MxSummer internship focused on designing and evaluating a pH control for a fed-batch bioreactor. A graphical user interface was developed using the software LabVIEW, and a data acquisition system was built to be able to measure and condition the signals for pH and temperature.A research poster was presented in the Science Summer 2006 poster contest for the Engineering and Technology areas obtaining second place. -
Summer InternThe Ohio State University Jun 2004 - Aug 2004Columbus, Ohio, UsSummer internship in the research group of Dr. L. S. Fan who was named by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) one of the "One Hundred Chemical Engineers of the New Era" on 2008. The main purpose of the research was to study the cyclic redox performance of a commercial Iron Oxide catalyst against a sol-gel derived Iron Oxide catalyst. During the internship training was provided in the use of thermo gravimetric analyzer (TGA) where the redox cycles were performed, also in the use of a surface area and pore size analyzer by gas adsorption BET and on a X-ray Diffractometer to determine the crystal structure, size, shape and internal stress of the catalyst, and also in the preparation of sol-gel composites.
