Lead the efforts of creating a new backend and designed new REST and GraphQL APIs. Using Scala, microservices, Kafka, ZooKeeper, this new backend powered the contributor platform, mobile apps and web and it was crucial for Pixable’s data efforts involving analytics and machine learning.

Lead a distributed team of 5 people shaping Pixable’s mobile experience and reporting directly to the CTO. Transitioned the team to practices like unit testing, code reviews and continuous delivery making the app and the team much more reliable. Coaching the entire team, managing the workload and working hand by hand with product and designers to make the Pixable iOS team the flagship of the company.

Full-stack engineer and team lead. I'm involved in both iOS development for the native iPad app that acts as the cash register and Ruby on Rails for the backend (web reports and API). I'm also involved in front-end development with Coffeescript and Backbone.js. I designed and implemented the REST API that registers use to communicate with the server. As the first full-time developer of the company I had the opportunity to contribute in key aspects of the development process and in the culture of the team: I established good practices like TDD, pair programming, code reviews and continuous integration in the team and raised the quality of our code making it more maintainable and flexible. I also lead the team through a transition to agile. I designed and implemented several internal libraries like a persistent queue for multithreaded background job execution in Objective-C or a SQL-based ActiveRecord versioning extension. I successfully integrated with partners and third-party APIs like Braintree, Paypal, LevelUp, TGate or Mercury. I integrated hardware with the iPad app like credit card swipers, barcode scanners or receipt printers. I also collaborated with higher management hiring engineers and shaping the team.

Since I ended my internship I've keep teaching myself and doing a variety of activities related to software development. I've been working with the iOS platform for a long time, both as a user as well as a developer, and in this transition period I wanted to boost my skills with the platform and release an app. So I did, and now "iSpellChecker" is in the AppStore and in its category it reached #2 and has been featured in the "New & Noteworthy" section plus it's a ★★★★★ rated app.You can download iSpellChecker from the 'links' section.More applications will come in the future, but first I would like to establish myself in a job.

Although my experience in the field is short, I've gained a valuable experience from my internship. I joined the company as an intern but I became seen as the technical expert on the project. This involved making decisions and teaching my colleagues about many areas including general software engineering best practices, frameworks and testing. I also improved the development process and I became the Architect of the project. An example of my passion and commitment is that I spent days and nights learning technologies that would help the project.

These jobs, despite not being related to my field, gave me a good perspective of what a job is. I've learnt the importance of hard work since I was 17, as I learnt that the more you put into it, the more success you could get out of it
