A teaching and Student Support Assistant in the Migrant Education program assists teachers by providing help for the students who are lacking the necessary skills needed to be successful in the American education system, as well as in American society. The overwhelming majority of students are exclusively Spanish-speaking and are from the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, or Mexico.As part of the job, I am also a teaching assistant, and for the past several years I worked in a classroom where I assisted with lesson plans and instruction. Translation support is provided "on the fly," both written and verbally. I have also worked as the temporary office clerk for a month while the secretary was out due to health reasons.Attached is an example of a newsletter I edited for the summer school program. The students were asked to form groups and submit interesting articles. The best articles were then included in the newsletter and also archived for the summer program. The majority of the work was submitted in Spanish and was later localized by myself.
