Ever since I started my Bachelor's Program in 2015, nervous systems, their function and development fascinated me. This, their complexity and involvement in/connection to diseases lead me to conduct my bachelor thesis investigating the effects of pesticides on honeybee larval development and nurse bee feeding behavior.Afterwards I continued my academics with an interdisciplinary neuroscience master's program. During that time I started investigating nervous systems of different species and at different levels using a multitude of approaches. This included electrophysiology in the bats auditory system, molecular analysis of circadian rhythms in mice, as well as neurovascular development in zebrafish in mice duing three internships in different labs of Goethe-University Frankfurt. The complex and yet poorly understood interactions between the nervous and vascular system during vertebrate development, in combination with the spectrum of possibilities the zebrafish offers as model system for this kind of research lead me to stay within the Lab of Amparo Acker-Palmer for my master thesis and the PhD. During my master thesis aleady I started investigating the expression pattern and functional role of a protein family (Flrt's) implicated in neurovascular development in mice, whose involvement during early zebrafish development are yet unknown. After exlploring the expression pattern of one member of the family (Flrt2) I inititated the establishment of a CRISPR/Cas9 based knockout model for downstream functional analysis.There's certainly more to learn, more problems to solve and by continuing this project I'm hopefully contributing to mankind's knowledge on neurovascular interactions during vertebrate development.Specialities: Zebrafish, CRISPR/Cas9, in-situ hybridization, confocal imaging, image analysis, WesternBlotAcademics: BSc Biology and MSc Interdisciplinary Neuroscience at Goethe-University Frankfurt, Germany
